Royal A-ware want to expand activities into milk powder and in this context acquire FrieslandCampina’s milk powder production in Aalter, Belgium.

FrieslandCampina are in the midst of an accelerated reorganisation and in the process of reorganising business areas. The milk powder towers in Aalter have a production capacity of approximately 45,000 tons. 40 employees work in this business area. FrieslandCampina will continue to produce consumer dairy products, such as chocolate milk, in Aalter and will continue with the planned investments.

Jan Anker of A-ware sees the acquisition as an opportunity to gain new customers and better serve existing customers. The production of powders is also in line with the private company’s desire to spread its activities more widely. A-ware are already active in Belgium with an own cream factory.

The powder towers require around 420 to 450m kg of milk per year. FrieslandCampina will initially continue to supply the raw material, but only during a transitional phase in which A-ware organise the milk supply itself, possibly from Belgium.

FrieslandCampina and Royal A-ware have been doing business together for some time. For example, FrieslandCampina has mozzarella produced in an A-ware factory in Heerenveen. In the past, A-ware bought milk from FrieslandCampina before cheese production started in Heerenveen. This has now ended.
