MEGGLE close plant in Bulgaria

Date: 19.04.2021Source: LZ

The Meggle Group is closing its production in Bulgaria by the end of September. The dairy in Shumen with an annual processing of 20m kg will be closed. In future, the country will be supplied from Meggle plants in Serbia, Slovakia and Bosnia. Despite Meggle’s good market position in Bulgaria, according to CEO Frank Oettel, the plant could only be utilised with private labels. In future, the company will concentrate on the Meggle brand.

The plant closure marks the end of a programme with which Meggle has improved the profitability of its foreign business over the past two years. In October last year, a production plant in Croatia with an annual capacity of 30 million kg of milk was sold to the Fortenova Group, which will retain 100 jobs in Osijek. Prior to that, Meggle sold its minority stake in Salzburgmilch to the cooperative.

Most recently, Meggle published a group turnover of €922m for 2019.
